San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich called out former President Donald Trump during a recent press conference of his. Popovich didn’t hold back his thoughts on Trump and let loose his feelings.

Popovich has been an outspoken critic of Trump over the years so his feelings are nothing new. He was asked about the importance of voting in the upcoming presidential election and chose to go down this route.
“He’s a pathetic individual. He’s a small man who has to make everybody around him smaller so he thinks he’s gonna be bigger,” Popovich said. “And isn’t that the same thing we tell all of our kids in grade school? That’s not how you act. That’s not what you do.”
“I’m just hoping people who are already sold on him for whatever reason, I can’t figure it out… The ones that stay home and don’t vote are the ones that worry me because we need everybody to vote.”
“I hope that they won’t stay home, that they’ll understand that this guy is a scam artist. He’s great at it. I’ll give him credit for that. He’s the best ever, but he makes you want to puke.”
The veteran head coach has been with the Spurs since he was hired back in 1996. He has led the organization to five NBA titles but has seen a decline in success over recent years.
San Antonio hasn’t made the postseason since the 2018-19 season but they have faith in their chances this year. The Spurs have young sensation Victor Wembanyama on the roster and he looks like the real deal.
Wembanyama won the Rookie of the Year honor last season and will be trying to duplicate his production on the court. He averaged 21.1 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.
His length on the defensive end of the floor is unlike anything we have seen in recent years so the Spurs are very high on his upside. The team also brought in veteran point guard Chris Paul to the mix this offseason, giving their star someone who can easily get him the ball.
San Antonio is building for the future but Popoviuch likely won’t be coaching much longer. He signed a new five-year deal with the Spurs in 2023 but it remains to be seen if he will stay for the entire length of the deal.
The veteran coach has full say when he wants to hang it up and seems to be enjoying his time in the NBA.
