It is just another day for the nurses of St. Denis Medical — except for the fact that Matt and Serena may or may not have dropped a patient.

In Us Weekly‘s exclusive clip from the Tuesday, March 25, episode of the NBC medical sitcom, Matt (Mekki Leeper) and Serena (Kahyun Kim) are transferring an unconscious man into a hospital bed when he slips and nearly falls to the ground.

“So we had a little incident,” Matt tells the cameras before Serena cuts him off, saying, “It is not an incident. Something has to happen for it to be an incident.”

While Matt notes that they “kind of dropped a guy,” Serena recalls a different version of events.

“We started to drop him, but I reached out and stopped it,” she fires back. Matt, however, points out that he “did hear a bonk” before they picked the patient back up.

Serena denies that there was a bonk, but Matt is persistent, adding, “Either he bonked your hand or he bonked the ground. Either way you cut it, there was a bonk.”

St. Denis Medical which premiered in November 2024 and was recently renewed for a second season, follows overworked doctors and nurses trying their best to care for patients at an underfunded Oregon hospital. In addition to Leeper and Kim, the mockumentary stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, David Alan Grier, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson and Kaliko Kauahi.

“It’s so fun to be in a mockumentary. I cherish the moments where I get to look into the camera and have that relationship,” Kim, 35, exclusively told Us last fall. “Especially with Serena, it’s really fun because she’s so honest and you can really tell how she feels from her face. I love having that connection with the audience in that way.”

Leeper, 30, told Us his time on the St. Denis Medical set has been “a blast.”

“I grew up wanting to be on a show like The Office or Parks and Recreation. Then I think there were some years where they weren’t making as many of those types of shows,” he explained. “It took somebody like Quinta Brunson [from Abbott Elementary] to blow open the doors again for shows like this to be popular.”

Fans of popular sitcoms such as The Office, Parks and Recreation, Abbott Elementary and Superstore have pointed out that Matt and Serena seem poised to become the next favorite fictional couple on TV.

“They sure are,” Kim told Us, while Lepper added, “Certainly in the sense that in the early seasons — which we are currently in — we’re wondering will they or won’t they?”

Lepper encouraged viewers to keep an eye on Matt and Serena as season 1 played out. “It is on our minds each and every day,” he teased. “And there’s just no way to tell [yet] if they will or if they won’t.”

Creator Eric Ledgin also didn’t rule out a potential romance between Matt and Serena, telling Us, “There’s definitely at least a one-sided will-they-or-won’t-they happening. So I can tell you it’ll definitely be a slow burn of something that we will track over time.”

St. Denis Medical airs on NBC Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET. before streaming the next day on Peacock.
