The expectation for quite some time has been that the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers will come to an agreement before the start of the 2025 NFL season that would make him the team’s new starting quarterback.

Recently, Rodgers has dropped multiple hints about joining the Steelers. However, no pen has been put to paper and the 41-year-old quarterback has remained a free agent.

At this point, no one knows what Rodgers is going to choose to do.

Pittsburgh has been patiently waiting for an answer. Mike Tomlin and company have Mason Rudolph and Will Howard on the roster at the quarterback position. That would not be an ideal scenario if Rodgers decides to pass.

ESPN Analyst Urges Steelers to Make Shocking Aaron Rodgers Decision

With that being said, ESPN’s Ben Solak has made a major revelation that suggests Rodgers may not choose to sign with the Steelers.

Even if Rodgers does sign with Pittsburgh, Solak isn’t expecting big things.

“Even if Aaron Rodgers signs with the Steelers, I’m not convinced the offense is better than last season — and for the (decently big!) chance Rodgers does not join the Steelers, this team is clearly worse than in 2024,” Solak wrote. “Still, as always with a Mike Tomlin-coached team, that decrease in team strength may not lead to an actual decrease in win total.”

Solak didn’t reveal if he has any sourcing on his belief that there is a “decently big” chance that Rodgers may not sign with the Steelers. However, it’s noticeable that he included that specific phrase in his writing.

Rodgers, on paper, would be a huge upgrade at quarterback for Pittsburgh. In 2024, he completed 63 percent of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. That is much better than Russell Wilson’s production last year.

Steelers Linked to Surprising Aaron Rodgers Alternative

Of course, no one can know what kind of impact Rodgers would have on the Steelers in 2025 unless the move actually happens.

If Rodgers is going to sign in Pittsburgh, that move is likely to happen in the fairly new future. The Steelers will begin their mandatory veteran camp on June 10 and it will run through June 12. Rodgers being there would be crucial for chemistry if he is going to be the team’s starting quarterback.

Expect to continue hearing more news, predictions, and rumors about Rodgers in the coming days. Something seems likely to be known before long.
