The Golden State Warriors looked promising at the start of the season with a talented roster that included stars Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, and Al Horford. However, injuries took a toll on their chances at the postseason.

While Curry had a scintillating performance in one play-in tournament game to keep his team’s hopes alive, they couldn’t win a second to qualify for a playoff spot. Instead, Devin Booker, Dillon Brooks, and the Phoenix Suns took that spot, with the first-round prize of getting swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The same fate would’ve likely hit this Warriors squad, who lost Butler to a season-ending injury, and had Curry out for a significant stretch towards the end of the season. With their latest season ending in disappointment, questions have started to swirl regarding the future.

Some of those questions focus on the future of the roster, which could see a major trade occur for one last attempt at the playoffs with Curry and another star. However, there are also questions regarding Steve Kerr’s coaching career.

A career change is potentially on the way for the man who coached Golden State to four championships during its dynasty era from 2015 through 2022. According to Bleacher Report, NBA insider Marc Stein recently indicated that top executives at ESPN “have been lobbying Kerr aggressively to try to convince him to return to the world of NBA broadcasting.”

That’s a significant update for Kerr’s career, and it seems to put pressure on the Warriors if they want to ensure he remains coaching Curry and Golden State, at least for another season or two.

Stein also indicated that the Warriors are “expected to meet with Kerr as early as Monday” to continue discussions about his status as head coach.

Golden State has reportedly been operating internally on the belief “it is more likely than not that a common ground can be found.”

Kerr previously worked as a broadcaster for Turner Network Television (TNT) in 2003 alongside the popular analyst Marv Albert. In 2007, Kerr left to become the general manager of the Phoenix Suns. Seven years later, he had left that position and accepted an offer to become the Warriors’ head coach. Now, over a decade later, it was the right move.

A five-time NBA champion as a player, he achieved all four of his championships as a head coach with the Warriors, thanks mainly to a talented squad that typically featured Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Curry. A 2018 championship followed a blockbuster trade that added Kevin Durant to the roster.

It’s believed that the Golden State is looking to make another big trade this offseason, which could bring a player such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, or another major star to help Curry. That would be the ideal way to boost their chances in an already-competitive Western Conference with young teams like the San Antonio Spurs surging.

A blockbuster trade could mean parting ways with another star, such as Butler, and it could also be what entices Kerr to continue coaching as he sees the potential to coach this team on another championship run. Along with that, the broadcasting jobs will always be there for him, whenever he decides to end his coaching career.
