In a rare start to question time under Opposition Leader Sussan Ley, the first question to the prime minister has come from a backbencher.
Leon Rebello, MP for the Queensland electorate of McPherson since May, asked Anthony Albanese about the government’s “no one left behind” stance.

Rebello asked: “According to the ABS, there are now 34,000 more unemployed Australians than a month ago. Inflation is soaring above the RBA’s target band, leading to concerns about stagflation and every month, the average household is paying $1800 more on their mortgage under this Labor government. Is this what the prime minister meant when he promised no-one will be left behind?”
Albanese responded by saying, Rebello’s question was “an interesting use of statistics”, touting jobs growth and a fall in inflation since the 2022 election, and listing a number of achievements that he said the MP wouldn’t have known about because of his recent election.
“[Rebello] would know that the minimum wage has increased for everyone and every year under this government,” Albanese said.
