A “substantial land slip” at Cardiff station in Newcastle is one of many weather-related events causing significant delays and closures across the rail network this morning, a spokesperson for Transport NSW said.

The T8 Airport and South line is completely non-operational in Sydney due to flooding on the tracks between Bardwell Park and Bexley North.

Lewisham station in Sydney’s Inner West is closed while crews pump water out of the station. Services will not stop at the station until it reopens.

Replacement buses are operating between Newcastle and Morriset in both directions due to the landslip, as are buses in and out of Maitland, as Sandgate station has flooded.

Water over the rail at Cockle Creek has affected signals, also causing delays. Transport NSW is monitoring the T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line closely due to heavy rainfall, which is causing minor delays and may worsen during the day.

Passengers are advised to avoid travel on affected lines if possible, and where not possible, to leave extra times as some trains will be stationed at platforms or stop between platforms for long periods of time as severe weather continues to impact the network.
