Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement news has Us feeling so high school.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” Swift and Kelce, 35, wrote alongside several snaps from a garden proposal in a joint Instagram post on Tuesday, August 26. The post was set to Swift’s song “So High School.”

The teacher references not only the couple’s respective careers, but also Swift’s previous era with her album The Tortured Poets Department. The album included the song “So High School,” which was written about her romance with Kelce.

“Truth, dare, spin bottles / You know how to ball, I know Aristotle,” Swift sings on the track. “Brand-new, full throttle / Touch me while your bros play Grand Theft Auto / It’s true, swear, scouts honor / You knew what you wanted and, boy, you got her.”

When Swift performed the song live during her Eras Tour, the pop star sat on bleachers while her dancers mimicked Kelce’s touchdown celebrations and Kansas City Chiefs’ fans’ go-to move, the Swag Surf.

Kelce has previously called “So High School” one of his favorite songs.

“It’s got a little bit of a sentimental meaning, I guess,” Kelce said during a June 2024 appearance on the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast.

Swift and Kelce started dating in summer 2023, after the Chiefs tight end famously shared on his and brother Jason Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast that he wanted to give the pop star a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it.

“It was such a wild romantic gesture to just be like, ‘I want to date you!’” Swift recalled during her appearance on “New Heights” in August. “At first when I looked at it, I was like, ‘This dude didn’t get a meet-and-greet and he’s making it everyone’s problem.’ He didn’t even reach out to our management! When this podcast came out, I was like, ‘Did he ever reach out to be in the tents or did we know he was in the building?’ He came with Patrick Mahomes and he thought that because he knows the elevator lady that he could just talk to her about getting [backstage]. That’s how it works in 1973.”

During the podcast episode, Travis called himself “the luckiest man in the world” while discussing their romance.

Swift eventually met Travis, despite their Eras Tour misconnection, after friends and family members vouched for the tight end. They made their relationship public after the singer attended her first Chiefs game that fall. Since then, Swift and Travis have been by each other’s side for countless football games, concerts and more. Swift also announced her upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl on “New Heights.” The album will drop on October 3.
