Taylor Swift is revealing what Travis Kelce said to her before proposing in August.

The Grammy winner, 35, joined host Jimmy Fallon during the Monday, October 6, episode of The Tonight Show, stepping onstage in a metallic sequined minidress and sparkly platform heels. She briefly spoke about her brand-new album, The Life of a Showgirl, before Fallon, 51, congratulated the pop star on her recent engagement to Travis Kelce after two years of dating.

“Taylor, that is insanity,” Fallon said, admiring the massive diamond ring that Kelce, 36, slipped on Swift’s finger.

“It’s crazy,” she said of her ring, explaining that Kelce “had it for a really long time before he gave it to me, too.”

Swift confessed that she looks at the ring “constantly. Like, it doesn’t feel in any way normal for me. I’m just sort of like, ‘Oh, man!’”

She sang her fiancé’s praises, gushing, “He’s just my favorite person I’ve ever met — no offense to everyone else. But the fact that this is the person that I get to hang out with every day forever … that’s the whole thing of it. You look at [the ring] and you’re like, ‘I get to hang out with him forever,’ and this represents that.”

When Fallon mentioned the timing of the proposal — how Swift and Kelce got engaged soon after she recorded an episode of the NFL star’s “New Heights” podcast — Swift replied, “I think, for Travis, the podcast was just sort a distraction, sort of ruse, to keep me not looking out the windows of the house.”

She explained, “Every time he does the podcast, it’s not like he blacks out all the windows.”

However, ahead of Kelce popping the question in a lavishly decorated backyard setting, Swift recalled there were “fully, like, blackout drapes on every single window of the whole house.”

By then, “I kinda realized that he’s walking around sorta nervous about the podcast, [saying], ‘My heart is racing. … I know how much this means to you. I just really want this to be what you’d hoped it would be.’ Because we’d been talking about doing the podcast and announcing the album. And he’s like, ‘My heart’s just racing.’ I’ve never seen this dude nervous. Ever. He’s professionally not a nervous person.”

Swift recalled Kelce asking, “Do you wanna go and just walk around the backyard and have a glass of wine?” She responded, “I’m always gonna wanna do that.”

At that moment she realized “why all the windows were curtained and why he was nervous,” she said. “It was the best possible-case scenario.”

During a funny segment where Fallon asked Swift to confirm the veracity of several recent rumors, Swift revealed that her close friend Ed Sheeran learned about her engagement via Instagram.

“That’s so true,” Swift responded, laughing and covering her face with her hands. She added, “I have a perfect explanation! … He doesn’t have a phone.” She said that’s “one thing I love about him. It’s very eccentric. Love it. But when I’m going through [my contacts, deciding] who we should call, who we should FaceTime, I’m going through my texts and being, like, ‘Who have I texted within the last month of my life?’ And he just wasn’t there.”

Swift called Sheeran, 34, one of her “favorite people on the planet” and “like family,” and when “the news came out, I was like, ‘Oh my God, we forgot to call Ed!’”

Swift’s Tonight Show appearance on Monday was the latest in a long string of visits to the NBC late-night program throughout her career. Previously, she stopped by the show in October 2022, when she promoted her 10th album, Midnights.

Swift’s sitdown with Fallon follows a busy release weekend for the singer. Hours after her album dropped on Friday, October 3, Swift debuted The Official Release Party of a Showgirl in movie theaters across the country, offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at the record’s creation, the music video for the lead single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” and lyric videos for the other 11 songs. Swift also appeared on The Graham Norton Show on Friday for the first TV interview of her Showgirl era.

After the release party wrapped its theatrical run, Swift premiered her lyric videos and “Fate of Ophelia” music video on YouTube on Sunday, October 5.

Later this week, Swift will continue her TV tour with a takeover of Late Night With Seth Meyers in the early morning hours of Thursday, October 9.

While Swift has been busy with the release of her 12th album, she’s enjoying life with her husband-to-be — and gleefully showing off that ring. As for Kelce, he publicly discussed his proposal for the first time in a September interview with Erin Andrews.

“I’m an emotional guy, so there were a few tears here and there,” he said. “But it’s been an exciting, exciting ride up to this day. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her.”

Kelce added that Swift has “brought excitement and a joy for life that made me a better man, made me a better person and made me just that much more comfortable than who I am.”
