While Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II” isn’t due in theaters until next October, it’s creating plenty of speculation around the cast of characters in the film, with several big names recently making headlines.

Actor Colin Farrell shed light on reprising his role as the Penguin for the sequel, indicating he wouldn’t be in this film as much as in the first. That seemingly opened the door for another actor, Sebastian Stan, to have more involvement, with rumors initially indicating he would portray Harvey Dent, who becomes the villain, Two-Face.

Now, newer rumors have emerged that Stan will play a different part in the movie, which may upset some fans who wanted to see his take on the role previously played by actors Tommy Lee Jones and Aaron Eckhart.

According to a recent article from Jeff Sneider at The InSneider, Stan is rumored to play Victor Zsasz in the film, rather than Dent. He also mentions that actor Brian Tyree Henry will portray Harvey Dent/Two-Face.

This should be taken with a grain of salt, as it’s currently speculation and there is no confirmation that these actors are playing those parts. However, if the rumors are true, it would make things interesting heading into the next Batman movie.

The previous film focused on Bruce Wayne as the Caped Crusader, played by Robert Pattinson. He unveiled a mystery related to the menacing villain, the Riddler, played by Paul Dano. Penguin (Farrell) also had a significant role in that film, and recently revealed he has only two scenes in the upcoming “The Batman: Part II.”

That puts the focus on another villain, which seems to be Harvey Dent, and if the new speculation proves true, possibly Victor Zsasz. According to a DC Wiki, Zsasz is a “psychopathic, serial killer who carves his flesh with tally marks after each kill.”

Having those two villains pitted against Pattison’s Batman would certainly match up with Farrell’s recent comments about the movie’s script. He called it “a really kind of dark and at times terrifying piece” in his interview remarks, which could indicate these particular villains are menacing the Caped Crusader.

Keep in mind that the speculation has been heavy since earlier this year that Stan would portray Dent/Two-Face, and a SlashFilm report cited The Hollywood Reporter’s newsletter as a confirmation that he would be in that role. Moviegoers will likely enjoy the story either way if this sequel is anything like its 2022 predecessor.

“The Batman: Part II” releases in theaters in early October 2027.
