The View cohost Sara Haines is getting candid about the realities of trying to have sex when you’re a mom of small children.
“Wherever vacation is, because Max and I have small kids,” Haines, 48, responded to fellow cohost Joy Behar on the Friday, February 27, episode of the hit daytime talk show. The panel was discussing the popularity of HBO’s hit series Heated Rivalry among straight women, before the conversation focused on the “hottest” places the hosts, personally, have had sex.
After cohost Sunny Hostin responded simply with “my house” and Behar, 83, detailed her love of having sex in cars, Haines described how difficult it can be for parents of young children to find time to be intimate.
“No children around,” Behar said, reaffirming that for Haines, having “hot sex” is having the ability to have sex at all when you’re finally alone with your partner.
“Oh, hell no. Your mama hat goes on real fast and that’s the least…” Haines began to respond.
“Yeah, they always say if you want to have sex with your husband and have kids you should close the door and shut them out,” Behar interjected.
“No, but they bang on the door! They bang on the door!” Haines explained. “We’ve tried everything! We don’t have a lot of screen time, so we will literally give them sugar and video games, put them in a corner and they need us immediately. You can’t even get there mentally.”
She continued, “It’s annoying. It’s a turn off. It’s like your parents calling right when you settle in for a night, you know?”
Haines and attorney Max Shifrin, who said “I do” in November 2014 after meeting online, share three children: Alec Richard, born in 2016, Sandra Grace, born in 2017, and Caleb Joseph, born in 2019.
Friday’s confession was not the first time Haines has opened up about her sex life as a busy working mom. In a January 2024 episode of The View, the cohost admitted that she often asks her husband to do “chores” around the house after they have sex.
“So what happens is, sometimes when I recover, I think about all the things we still have to do,” she explained at the time. “I stop and I say, ‘Babe, did the plumber call today?’ I need to wait a little longer [after sex]. Which is why I look at my phone — give him a full five minutes before I ask him a question.”
She added, “We have three kids, we run in different directions. When I get him, I get him. He got what he wanted, I’m gonna get what I want. Did the plumber call?”
Months later, during a September 2024 episode, Haines also admitted that her family’s Alexa had actually interrupted her and her husband while they had sex.
“One time, Max and I were… cuddling,” she said at the time, after explaining to the panel that “sometimes it’s not your phone” that can accidentally record a private moment. “And Alexa answered and was like, ‘I’m sorry, I don’t understand the question’ from the next room.”
