Influencers Matt and Abby Howard see fans’ critical comments on their relationship.

Matt, 27, and Abby, 26, had a “messy conversation” on divorce during a Wednesday, January 21, episode of their “Unplanned” podcast. While chatting, Matt confessed that he sees many comments from their fans telling Abby to leave him.

“If I had a dollar for every comment or ‘like’ on a comment for people that told you to leave me, I would have a lot of dollars,” Matt said as Abby giggled.

Abby then chimed in, saying, “Well, that’s how you know that it’s so baseless. You’re a rockstar husband, like, you’re an amazing husband.”

Matt agreed that Abby is an “amazing wife” too, and shared that he believes that their followers get “frustrated” in their own lives and see “small snippets” of his life and project their feelings. “Maybe they’re in an unhealthy marriage and they want to leave, but they don’t have the courage to get out,” he explained.

Abby then said that she hadn’t “thought” of that circumstance. “Culture and society don’t necessarily promote perseverance in a marriage,” she said.

Elsewhere in the episode, Matt stated that he and Abby are “not getting divorced.”

Fans have long criticized Matt and Abby’s relationship because of their “traditional” dynamic, where Abby takes care of the house.

In December 2022, Matt made a TikTok of himself cleaning up and told fans, “Don’t be fooled by me picking up my house because I’m not typically the one who does it. And don’t be fooled by me taking care of my son.”

Matt was again under scrutiny for choosing to sleep in his closet instead of in bed with Abby in February 2025.

“This is super embarrassing but I’ve been sleeping in our walk-in closet for the past month,” he said while laying on a mattress. “My wife’s not a huge fan of this arrangement, obviously,” he added. “This decision that I made was something that I had to do to prioritize my mental health because I was not OK. I was really struggling.”

Abby later shared that she felt “lonely” sleeping alone during an episode of their podcast. She also noted that it’s hard to find clothes because there’s a “queen-size mattress in there.” The couple also shared that their sleeping arrangement had “nothing to do with the ‘health of their marriage.’”

Matt and Abby met in 2013 at a local production of Mary Poppins in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2016, they made their relationship official and attended college together in 2017. The following year, the couple got engaged and tied the knot in July 2019.

The couple expanded their family in July 2022 with the birth of their son Griffin, now 3. In August 2023, they welcomed another son, August, now 2.

In September 2025, Abby announced that she suffered a pregnancy loss just one month after sharing that she was expecting.

“At a routine pregnancy appointment, our doctor could not find a heartbeat. Shortly after they sent us in for an ultrasound where the technician said words we will never forget, ‘I am so sorry I do not have good news,’” she captioned an Instagram post. “That is when we got the gender reveal we never hoped for and also the news that our baby had a genetic condition that took her life around 17 weeks gestation.”
