One of the bigger reported storylines across the basketball world this week has stemmed from Golden State following its play-in tournament loss last week.
Much of the attention centered on the future of head coach Steve Kerr, who acknowledged after the game that he would take some time before reconnecting with the Golden State Warriors front office.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen. I still love coaching, but I get it. These jobs all have an expiration date,” Kerr told reporters after the loss to the Phoenix Suns.
“There’s a run that happens, and when the run ends, sometimes it’s time for new blood and new ideas and all that,” he added. “And if that’s the case, I will be just nothing but grateful for the most amazing opportunity any person could have — to coach this franchise, in front of our fans in The Bay, and to coach Steph Curry, to coach Dray, the whole group. So it might still go on. It may not, I don’t know at this point, but we all need to step away a little bit and then reconvene.”
That uncertainty has fueled speculation about potential replacements, with Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor reporting that Todd Golden of the Florida Gators could emerge as a name of serious interest if Golden State makes a coaching change. Golden previously spent three seasons at the University of San Francisco and is believed to have a strong relationship with Warriors owner Joe Lacob.

Golden addressed those rumors on Wednesday for the first time and seemed to shut down all the speculation highlighting that is anticipating coaching the Gators once again next.
“That’s an interesting question, Mark,” Golden said in a room full of reporters. “I’m definitely planning on coaching the Gators.”
While Golden could certainty change his mind if an offer is presented following a final decision with Kerr, he certainly isn’t in a rush to make the leap to the NBA.
He remains just 40 years of age and built Florida back into one of the premier programs in college basketball leading them to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances in his four seasons with the program, and won a national championship last season.
That said, getting an opportunity to coach a team led by Stephen Curry would certainly be a rare opportunity that is presented, but for now, it seems Golden is staying put in Gainesville.
