A tornado has been spotted on camera ripping through Fort Pierce, Florida as the Sunshine State braces for Hurricane Milton.

Multiple tornados were seen touching down in Florida on Wednesday hours before the dangerous hurricane was expected make landfall on the state’s west coast, with officials issuing nearly 100 tornado warnings.

Traffic camera videos shared on social media showed one of the tornadoes moving through Fort Pierce, which is located on Florida’s east coast. The tornado appeared to be carrying a significant amount of debris through the air as it moved.

“Massive Tornado Moves Through Fort Pierce, Florida Area Around 5:07pm EDT,” meteorologist John Basham wrote on X, formerly Twitter, while sharing two videos that show the tornado moving near Interstate 95.

St. Lucie County Sheriff Keith Pearson said in a video shared to Facebook on Wednesday that the tornado “took out” a building that was used to store patrol cars.

“This is a devastating tornado,” Pearson said. “Thankfully nobody was in there at the time. This thing came through and took this out within a moment… Take cover, take shelter. This is real storm, this is a dangerous storm.”

Newsweek reached out for comment to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office via email on Wednesday evening.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
