A Colombian national who officials have said entered the United States illegally in 2023 is expected to receive a six-month sentence, time that has already been served, after pleading guilty to raping a 14-year-old boy in a Manhattan bodega bathroom.
Nicol Alexandra Contreras-Suarez, 31, a transgender woman, pleaded guilty to second-degree rape in New York Supreme Court for sexually assaulting a teenager in East Harlem in 2025, according to The New York Post.
Contreras-Suarez previously faced charges for first-degree rape of a child less than 17 and stalking, according to a July 2025 news release from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
“We expect the defendant to remain detained and be deported following sentencing, due to the felony conviction,” a spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office told the newspaper.
Prosecutors agreed the plea deal, which spares the victim testifying, in consultation with the victim’s family, the Post reported.
Newsweek contacted the Justice Department outside of normal office hours on Wednesday.
Contreras-Suarez has been held in custody at Rikers Island in New York since legal proceedings began in July 2025.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) arrested Contreras‑Suarez in March 2023 for illegally entering the United States at San Ysidro, California, and was later released, according to the DHS’ July 2025 release.
New York City is a sanctuary jurisdiction that limits cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities in certain cases.
The reported plea deal elicited strong reactions on social media.
“I’m beyond angry!” U.S. Representative Andy Ogles, the Republican of Tennessee, responded on X.
Fox News commentator Guy Benson, wrote on X, “Being in two Special Protected Identity Classes in a left-wing jurisdiction sure has its benefits, like allowances to do crimes with little to no accountability. “Progress”!
This is a developing story; updates to follow.
