President Donald Trump falsely claimed that the “Biden FBI” placed agents in the crowd on January 6, 2021, in an early morning Truth Social post Sunday, adding a new layer to previously unfounded claims about the crime agency’s role on the day rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol.
“THE BIDEN FBI PLACED 274 AGENTS INTO THE CROWD ON JANUARY 6. If this is so, which it is, a lot of very good people will be owed big apologies. What a SCAM – DO SOMETHING!!!” the president posted.
Trump was the president on January 6, 2021, not Joe Biden, who took the oath of office two weeks later.
Last month, Trump said that the FBI “secretly placed” 274 agents in the crowd ahead of the riot. FBI Director Kash Patel later clarified that, “Agents were sent into a crowd control mission after the riot was declared by Metro Police.”
The FBI has long denied having any involvement—either by staff or informants—in the riots that took place on January 6, which resulted in several deaths as well as injuries to more than 150 law enforcement officers.
However, conspiracy theories about its role in the attack—referred to as “fedsurrection” theories—have endured, many of these promoted by Trump himself. As well as the FBI, Trump has shared posts on social media suggesting the involvement of other law enforcement agencies and the watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has counted over a hundred such instances.
