President Donald Trump says Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is facing backlash from “Radical Left Lunatics, Insurrectionists, Agitators, and Thugs” because “she is a woman, and has done a really GREAT JOB!”

Noem has faced bipartisan calls for her impeachment or firing on the heels of two fatal shootings involving federal immigration agents in Minneapolis this month.

Newsweek reached out to a political analyst for comment via email on Friday night.

What To Know

Taking to Truth Social Friday night, Trump said, “The Radical Left Lunatics, Insurrectionists, Agitators, and Thugs, are going after Kristi Noem, the Secretary of Homeland Security, because she is a woman, and has done a really GREAT JOB! The Border disaster that I inherited is fixed, the violent criminals that were allowed into our Country through Sleepy Joe’s ‘sick’ Open Border Policy, are largely gone, or being strongly sought for purposes of removal, and the Murder Rate in the USA just reached the lowest level in history, 125 years! Washington, D.C., is now one of the safest cities in America – Likewise, numerous other once very dangerous cities!

“Republicans, don’t let these Crooked Democrats, who are stealing Billions of Dollars from Minnesota, and other Cities and States from all over the Country, push you around. They are using this aggressive protest SCAM to obfuscate, camouflage, and hide their CRIMINAL ACTS of theft and insurrection. They should all be in jail. I was elected on Strong Borders, and Law and Order, among many other things. Thank you to Secretary Kristi Noem. Remember, ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES!!! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP”

Noem was asked about calls for her resignation on Thursday night in an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity. She responded to the pressure, telling Hannity in part: “Well, these radicals are attacking me but I’m just doing my job. I’m following the law, enforcing the laws like President Trump promised that he would do, to keep people safe in this country.”

Earlier this week, Trump announced that border czar Tom Homan would oversee operations in Minneapolis, while Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino was moved out of the city. Bovino has also faced bipartisan scrutiny in the aftermath of the deadly shootings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, both age 37 and U.S. citizens.

What People Are Saying

Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, on X this week: “Yes, it’s astonishing that Kristi Noem still has her job after the deaths, lies, and failures on her watch. But the American people have the final say when it comes to holding this entire administration – from the president on down – accountable for its cruelty and corruption.”

Scott Jennings, former adviser to President George W. Bush, on X this week: “Why are Democrats in Minnesota so hellbent on protecting illegal alien criminals inside their jails? This is the question that’s being intentionally ignored. Give ICE the criminals instead of releasing them into the streets and all of this chaos ends.”

What Happens Next

Homan’s direction of the Minneapolis operation and Bovino’s removal may indicate a shift in the administration’s approach that could affect both local enforcement tactics and federal-state cooperation in Minnesota.
