It’s time to tap in.

Tap-to-pay options including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and more are finally coming to Walmart and its subsidiary Sam’s Club.

Walmart announced Friday that tap-to-pay will be available beginning August 24 at select Walmart and Sam’s Club locations, and will roll out to all stores by the end of 2026. The option will hit Walmart’s fuel stations by mid-2027.

“We want customers and members to have choice in how they pay, so they can check out in the way that works best for them,” the company said in a press release.

“Tap to Pay gives customers and members another familiar and convenient way to pay at checkout using contactless payment methods. Whether picking up groceries, gifts or everyday essentials, they can check out using eligible contactless card, phone, or smartwatch.”

Previously, customers were able to pay for items digitally through Walmart Pay, which utilized QR codes, on the Walmart app.

Customers can also now add their Walmart and Sam’s Club cards to their digital wallet for contactless payment.

Sam’s Club shoppers can skip lines altogether using their Scan & Go payment method, which allows customers to scan items and pay as they shop.

Fans rejoiced at the long-awaited introduction of tap-to-pay on an Instagram announcement by Walmart.

“I love Walmart pay but THANK YOU,” one commenter wrote.

Doing cartwheels down the aisles rn! (mentally not physically)” wrote another.

“Finally! Quite literally why I stopped going to Walmart… I don’t even have a physical card,” a third commenter wrote.

The news comes as Walmart reported its slowest U.S. sales growth in over six years for the second quarter. The company’s stock fell 9% on Thursday following the announcement, per an ABC report.

The company said its operating income rose by 30% in the second quarter, in part due to a $2.9 billion tariff refund from the US government. In Thursday’s earnings call, Walmart told investors it would use the cash infusion to cut prices for customers.
