The last thing the Golden State Warriors need is another key injury to throw an obstacle in front of them amid an admittedly mediocre season so far.

Steph Curry couldn’t avoid an injury scare on Friday night as the Warriors battled the Detroit Pistons. The veteran guard went to the locker room with an apparent knee injury. As the fourth quarter opened up, the Warriors officially ruled Curry out for the remainder of the game.

According to an official announcement from the Warriors, Curry is dealing with right knee soreness.

Although Curry has been dealing with a minor ailment all week, ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported that Curry was grimacing throughout the third quarter after a layup attempt. Following the play, Curry was limping going into the tunnel before going back to the Warriors’ locker room to get evaluated. The severity of the setback is unclear, but the Warriors aren’t going to take any risks. He is done for the night.

The Warriors were trailing at the time of Curry’s exit. He checked out after seeing the court for 25 minutes. The veteran star shot 7-16 from the field, knocking down four of his ten shots from three and going 5-5 from the free-throw line. Curry had 23 points on the night, along with two assists, one rebound, and a block.

Curry recently missed a game earlier this week. On the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Warriors suffered a 108-83 loss in the absence of Curry. He returned to the court in the following game, dropping 27 points in a 140-124 win over the Utah Jazz.

Lately, a lot of pressure has been placed on Curry, as the Warriors lost their star forward Jimmy Butler to an ACL injury. With Butler out for the season, the Warriors are exploring many options ahead of the trade deadline. It’s unclear if they have favorable chances of making a substantial upgrade, but Curry hasn’t been able to worry about that. The veteran guard has to take care of business in the meantime

After Friday’s action against Detroit, the Warriors will get a few days off before they host the Philadelphia 76ers next Tuesday. Curry’s status will be something to keep an eye on in the coming days as his knee is officially a notable concern for the team.
