White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, 28, has announced that she is pregnant with her and her 60-year-old husband Nicholas Riccio’s second baby.
“The greatest Christmas gift we could ever ask for — a baby girl coming in May 2026,” Leavitt revealed via Instagram on Friday, December 26. “My husband and I are thrilled to grow our family and can’t wait to watch our son become a big brother. My heart is overflowing with gratitude to God for the blessing of motherhood, which I truly believe is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth.”
The Trump administration spokesperson shared the first look at her bump and an early ultrasound photo of the pregnancy in a festive Instagram post.
Leavitt stressed that she is “extremely grateful” to her boss, President Donald Trump, and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles for “fostering a pro-family environment in the White House.”
She added, “2026 is going to be a great year and I am so excited to be a girl mom!”
Leavitt confirmed her engagement to real estate developer Riccio in December 2023. They welcomed a son, Nicholas “Niko” Robert Riccio, in July 2024, with Leavitt returning to work on Trump’s 2024 reelection campaign within days of giving birth.
At the time, Leavitt celebrated her son’s arrival by insisting that there is “nothing comparable to the love you feel for your child.”
“My heart has grown bigger than I ever imagined possible,” she wrote via Instagram in July 2024. “Babies are the ultimate blessing and I’m bursting with gratitude for our beautiful, happy, healthy boy.”
The Trump administration’s spokesperson — who previously ran for the United States House of Representatives in New Hampshire and lost to Chris Pappas in 2022 — has occasionally addressed her 32-year age gap with her husband. She admitted to The Megyn Kelly Show in May that she and Riccio had a “very atypical love story.”
Leavitt shared that they’d met through a mutual friend hosting “an event at a restaurant” in New Hampshire. They eventually tied the knot mere days before Trump, 79, was sworn in for his second term in January 2025.
“[Riccio] is incredible,” she beamed on The Megyn Kelly Show. “He’s the father of my child and he’s the best dad I could ever ask for. And he is so supportive, especially during a very chaotic period of life… I say, ‘I walked into your life and it’s been a circus ever since,’ but God bless him because he’s fully on board.”
More recently, the White House press secretary confessed on “Pod Force One with Miranda Devine” in November that her family struggled to accept her “unusual” age-gap romance because her mother is actually younger than Riccio.
“It’s definitely a challenging conversation to have at first,” she explained. “But then, of course, once they got to know him and saw who he is as a man, and his character and how much he adores me, I think it became quite easy for them.”
Leavitt went on, “Now we’re all friends. I mean, it’s a typical family relationship. My husband has such respect for my parents and the way that they raised me, and we all have a lot of fun together when they come to visit.”
She suggested on “Pod Force One with Miranda Devine” that her marriage works so well because Riccio is “very introverted” and is not at all interested in the spotlight.
“He stays behind the scenes. He’s not on social media. He’s very private and he’s an incredibly hands-on father,” she mentioned. “He and my son are just the best of friends. He’s just an amazing guy and he is my number one fan. He watches every interview, every press briefing.”
