The Summer I Turned Pretty isn’t ending quite yet thanks to a surprise movie.

Based on Jenny Han‘s book series, Prime Video’s adaptation followed the love triangle between Belly (Lola Tung) and the Fisher brothers: Conrad (Chris Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). The Summer I Turned Pretty, It’s Not Summer Without You and We’ll Always Have Summer served as inspiration for the show’s three seasons.

While viewers were expecting the series to wrap up after season 3, Han had a surprise up her sleeve. Prime Video announced in September 2025 their plans for a movie to wrap up the story, which came hours after the season 3 finale.

“The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have made it a global sensation,” Courtenay Valenti, who is head of film, streaming and theatrical at Amazon MGM Studios, and Vernon Sanders, who is Global Head of Television, at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, shared in a statement at the time. “We’re proud of the series’ extraordinary success and couldn’t be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter.”

Who Is Returning?

Tung and Briney’s participation has been confirmed after the season 3 finale. Us Weekly has also confirmed Casalegno’s return as Jeremiah while Sean Kaufman, Rain Spencer, Isabella Briggs and Jackie Chung are expected to reprise their roles.

Where Will the Movie Premiere — And When?

Prime Video is releasing the full-feature film. Han was asked about the movie’s release date in September 2025 during a joint cast appearance, saying, “It’s still a little too soon to say. But Sarah Kucserka, my co-showrunner, and I have finished a draft, so we’re chugging along.”

Han did confirm that 2026 would be too soon. “We don’t know when it’s coming out, but not next year,” she added. “We still have to make it.”

What Story Will the Movie Follow?

“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Han said in a September 2025 statement. “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”

Did the Book Changes Hint at What Is to Come?

Pulling inspiration from Han’s We’ll Always Have Summer, the show ended with Belly and Conrad returning to Cousins Beach as a couple. Some fans, however, weren’t thrilled by the lack of epilogue, which showed Belly and Conrad getting married

“This is our start. This is the moment it becomes real. We are married. We are infinite,” read the final lines in Han’s novel. “Me and Conrad. The first boy I ever slow danced with, ever cried over. Ever loved.”

Could There Be More Spinoff Projects?

Sanders previously hinted at plans for The Summer I Turned Pretty to grow beyond the events in the books.

“I will say stay tuned, but Jenny’s got some exciting surprises. So we’re thrilled about a season 3, and she’s got a vision for more,” he told Deadline in September 2023. “This show is going to continue to be a huge centerpiece for us, and we absolutely have plans to continue building it. Jenny’s got great vision for where she wants to go with all of it, but we’re already hard at work developing complementary pieces.”

Two years later, Sanders shut down the idea of a possible TSITP spinoff.

“That was probably wishful thinking for me at the time, and Jenny has stayed really focused [on] getting these seasons right,” he shared with Deadline in July 2025. “We’re pursuing new and different things with Jenny right now. She’s presented some other things that are related to this.”

He continued: “So once the full season is launched, we’ll get into conversations, and we’ll ask her to pick from the many things that she’s surfaced. But we’ve moved away from those conversations.”
