From The Summer I Turned Pretty to The Morning Show, TV fans have been very lucky recently when it comes to their favorite shows getting early — and surprise — renewals.
Netflix surprised viewers who are still awaiting Benedict’s (Luke Thompson) romance with Sophie (Yerin Ha), which will play out in Bridgerton season 4, by confirming in May that the show will be returning for seasons 5 and 6 as well.
“We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited and then they have to be dubbed into every language,” showrunner Jess Brownell told The Hollywood Reporter in June 2024 about the future of the show. “The writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace. We’re trying to speed up, but somewhere in that range.”
Meanwhile, Prime Video was preparing to wrap up The Summer I Turned Pretty in September with a series finale. That same day, Prime Video announced that they greenlit a feature film that will conclude The Summer I Turned Pretty story.
“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” creator Jenny Han said in a statement. “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”

‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’
Shortly after The Summer I Turned Pretty ended its three-season run on Prime Video, the streaming service announced a surprise movie.
‘Tulsa King’
Taylor Sheridan’s hit series was renewed for season 4 at Paramount+ days ahead of the season 3 premiere.
‘The Morning Show’
Apple TV+ renewed the show for a fifth season exactly one day ahead of its season 4 premiere.
‘The Paper’
After planning a weekly episode drop, Peacock pivoted The Office spinoff to a binge watch. The Paper scored a season 2 renewal one day before it premiered.
‘Cruel Summer’
Despite Freeform canceling Cruel Summer in 2023, the decision was reversed, with Olivia Holt set to reprise her role as Kate Wallis in the newly-announced season 3.
‘Untamed’
Netflix originally advertised Untamed as a limited series before picking it up for season 2.
‘Wednesday’
Netflix also renewed Wednesday ahead of its season 2 premiere — with the promise of at least one spinoff.
‘Virgin River’
The small town series was renewed for season 8 before season 7 even premiered on Netflix.
‘Slow Horses’
Apple TV+ has renewed Slow Horses for season 7 even though season 5 had yet to premiere.
‘The Comeback’
Lisa Kudrow’s The Comeback received a season 3 renewal after an 11-year hiatus.
‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’
The Outlander prequel was renewed for season 2 ahead of its series premiere.
‘Maxton Hall’
Before returning for season 2, Prime Video awarded Maxton Hall with more episodes.
‘Bridgerton’
With production still underway on season 4, Netflix renewed Bridgerton for seasons 5 and 6.
‘Fallout’
Prime Video has renewed the hit video game adaptation for a third season before viewers even got a glimpse at season 2.
‘Severance’
Apple TV+ renewed Severance for season 3 on the same day its season 2 finale debuted.
‘Ted Lasso’
Production on season 4 of Ted Lasso commenced two years after the last episode was released on Apple TV+.
‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’
While Disney+ fans await season 2, at least they know there will definitely be more episodes of the show.
‘Dark Winds’
AMC picked Dark Winds up for more episodes before the season 3 premiere.
‘The White Lotus’
The hit HBO series was renewed for season 4 before its third installment even premiered.
‘Love Is Blind’
Ahead of the season 8 premiere, Netflix picked Love Is Blind up for two more seasons.
‘Abbott Elementary’
Before season 4 wrapped on ABC, the network already renewed Abbott Elementary.
