Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot during an appearance at a Utah University Wednesday, according to a statement from Utah Valley University (UVU).

The shooting took place around 1 p.m. local time Wednesday, during a student Q&A atUVU in Orem, the school statement said.

“There was a single shot fired from the top of a nearby building about 200 yards away to the best of our knowledge he has been hit and a suspect is in custody,” the statement said.

Kirk, 31, is the Founder and Executive Director of Turning Point USA, accoridng to his LinkedIn page. The page describes Turning Point USA as “a national student movement dedicated to identifying, organizing, and empowering young people to promote the principles of free markets, and limited government.”

Turning Point USA was co-founded by Kirk in June of 2012, according to the website.
