The suspect in the terror attack at a synagogue in Manchester, U.K., on Thursday had been identified by police as Jihad al-Shamie, 35.

British Counter Terrorism Police described al-Shamie as a U.K. citizen of Syrian descent who had not appeared in the British government’s counter-terrorism program Prevent.

Two men in their 30s and a woman in her 60s have also been arrested in connection with the attack, on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism, police said.

The Thursday morning stabbing attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall left two victims dead and three others in serious condition. It has since been declared a terrorist incident.

The incident occurred on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
