A video about a woman’s impulsive home makeover—inspired by a late-night Pinterest scroll—that quickly turned into an “instant” mistake has gone viral on TikTok.

In the video by TikTok user @sundaykeeps, which has amassed over 963,000 views since it was posted on August 9, the woman begins her day with a confident vision.

“Last night I was scrolling on Pinterest and I saw this picture [a hallway painted dark green] and naturally, I woke up this morning and now I have to do it,” she says in a voiceover.

The woman’s goal was to update her “sad, boring…white on black” hallway and inject “some life” into the space. Initially, she intended only to “paint this one wall and have this be a focal point,” but the project soon expanded. She ultimately decided to paint the entire hallway, including the trim.

With uncertainty lingering, she poses a question to herself: “Will I hate it and change my mind at the end of all of this? I have no idea.” Adding to the suspense, she confesses: “My husband has no idea that I’m doing this. We’ll see his reaction when he gets home.”

The viral TikTok post comes amid a boom in home renovation activity. According to a survey by Houzz, a leading home design platform, median spending on renovations in the U.S. surged from $15,000 in 2020 to $24,000 by 2023—a 60 percent jump.

The survey found kitchens were the most frequently updated room, followed by guest and primary bathrooms. Living rooms were also a popular choice, with one in five homeowners taking on renovations in that space.

‘What Have I Done’

The viral clip later shows the woman purchasing paint supplies and beginning the transformation. As she opens the can of dark green paint, text overlaid on the video says “almost instant regret.”

Her uncertainty grows as she paints, carefully working her way across the hallway, pausing at moments but pressing on. In a later clip, a close-up of the now fully painted back wall is shown with the text on the screen saying “what have I done.”

The video cuts to her husband returning home and catching sight of the makeover. “What?” he says, asking whether the walls have been painted black. She replies: “No, it’s green and I hate it.” The husband responds with a simple “oh my god,” to which she adds: “I absolutely hate it.”

A caption shared with the video echoes the sentiment of regret, saying: “currently spiraling pleaseee send help and suggestions.”

Several TikTok users shared their ideas, with some saying she just needs to change the shade of the color and the lighting in the area.

Baba2021 noted: “Wrong green. Too much olive in it. Try something with more blue undertones.”

User @vancity_melissa agreed, saying: “It’s the wrong shade. Get a brighter shade and redo.”

User @lamz78617 noted: “you just need warm lighting.”

Kaitlyn also said: “Your lighting is too white, switch it up for some warmer lighting and adding a rug over the carpet will help too. Just need all warmer tones.”
