According to American Kennel Club (AKC), the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is one of America’s favorite dog breeds. It ranked 15th in popularity in 2024, following 11th place in the two years prior.

The AKC describes the corgi as a small but strong and athletic herding dog with a friendly, affectionate nature. Despite its short stature—10 to 12 inches tall and 27 to 30 pounds—it is agile, quick, and built for hard work.

Corgis are intelligent, playful, and respond well to training, but their herding instincts make them fearless, independent, and excellent watchdogs. Known for their distinctive coats and big bark, they thrive in active families that can give them attention and companionship. In return, they offer unwavering loyalty and love.

Reactions Flood In

The heartwarming video has generated nearly 20,000 comments.

“How I imagine entering heaven to be like,” one user wrote. Another commented, “I’m so tired of this never happening to me.”

“As a corgi mom, thank you for returning them and getting one—you’ll be forever loved,” said another commenter. The new owner replied, “I honestly feel cured.”

Science Backs It Up: Pets Make People Happier

Research has long supported the idea that pets improve emotional well-being. A 2024 survey of 1,000 pet owners and 1,000 non-pet owners found that those with pets spend more time outdoors, exercise more, feel more loved, and are generally happier than those without animals.

Bill Henry, a psychology professor at Metropolitan State University of Denver, said the findings reflect the powerful emotional benefits pets provide.

A separate June 2025 national survey of 2,250 adults by YouGov for Canine Companions found that 70 percent of Americans believe dog owners seem happier than others. Forty-three percent of respondents owned a dog, 34 percent owned a cat, and the rest had other pets or none.

Even among cat owners, 72 percent agreed with the statement, reinforcing the idea that dogs bring joy. Most respondents also said pets give a sense of purpose—92 percent of cat owners and 94 percent of dog owners agreed.
