A late-night drive took a terrifying turn for one woman after a small animal darted out in front of her car.
What she found when she got out to check has since gone viral in a TikTok video, turning a near-tragedy into a heartwarming adoption story. Since the woman posted the clip chronicling her journey in rescuing a puppy, it has received over 1.5 million views.
“This poor sweetheart ran out in front of my car, and I thought it was a fox,” the woman said in the video, quickly realizing it was a puppy “covered in paint.”
“I am shook,” she said. “Like, I’m absolutely shaking so bad because … I literally was about a centimeter from killing him.” The puppy rescue was just the beginning of their journey.
From Near-Tragedy to Chicken Dinner
The puppy, whom she named Diesel, was clearly terrified and exhausted. After struggling to coax him out from under the car, she brought him home.
After arriving home, Diesel was so scared that he was shaking, but he eventually found comfort. “I just put the bathmat down and he went over, plomped himself down, and he’s just fallen asleep for the last half an hour,” the woman said.
The first step was to feed the malnourished pup. She air-fried him “a lovely breast of chicken” and served it with rice.
Then, she made the necessary arrangements to take the puppy to the Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSCPA) for medical attention and to see if he had an owner. She bought him supplies—”a big bag of treats and his toy and some puppy pads and a new bed”—so he would have something familiar with her scent on it. The moment she handed him over, she cried, especially when he gave her a big kiss on the face as if to say thank you.
Finding the Soul Dog
The owner’s initial video sparked a huge reaction, with many viewers convinced the two were meant to be together.
One commenter simply wrote, “Congratulations on meeting your soul dog.” Another expressed the common desire of rescue video viewers, saying, “I hate watching animal rescue vids and they don’t keep them.”
In a follow-up video, the owner revealed that her journey with Diesel wasn’t over. She said the clip “blew up” and thanked everyone for the kind messages, adding, “I don’t think I did anything spectacular. I think anyone who is a decent human being and has a love for animals would do the same.”
After handing Diesel over to the DSPCA and learning he was quickly placed with a foster family, she and her boyfriend decided they had to know how he was doing. They planned to visit the shelter before he met his potential new family.
She then dropped the heartwarming news: “The update for Diesel is that he was adopted by a very loving family who are just going to absolutely spoil him. And the reason that I know that he’s going to be spoiled, it’s because we adopted him. Everybody, meet the new member of the family.”
She said that she had taken him to the DSPCA for several critical reasons: “We were not exactly plan on getting a dog right now,” she said. The couple also needed to ensure he didn’t have a missing owner, and Diesel needed urgent medical care and vaccinations.
Now home, the transformation in the puppy is clear.
“I genuinely can’t even compare what he was like when I found him to what he’s like now,” the woman said. “He has his personality completely shining through.
“Diesel was lucky, but … plenty of dogs with stories similar to Diesel get handed in [to the DSPCA] every single day and they are … ready to be adopted forever.”
