A pet parent focused on training her dog received backlash from TikTok users after they spotted a heartbreaking moment in the background.
TikTok user @seveb_06 started filming a video of her training her golden retriever. She focused solely on the pup, which is critical when dog training.
Not only do owners need to keep their dogs focused during training, but they should also give them their full attention by removing distractions such as TVs and phones, an article from VetStreet says. By being fully present, owners can strengthen the bond with their dogs.
However, her Jack Russell terrier didn’t understand why she wasn’t getting the same attention. The small dog only spotted the pup getting all of the owner’s focus, plus treats, which didn’t sit right with her. Not wanting to be left out, she walked toward the owner to show she also knew tricks in the May 4 video posted to the account @seveb_06.
She stood behind the owner, lifting her paw, hopeful she would be noticed and receive a reward. The dog moved to the other side when the owner did not glance her way. She again performed her tricks but received the same outcome: no attention.
Desperate for love, the dog even put her paws on the owner’s leg. Her eyes filled with sadness after being ignored.
When the owner rewatched the footage, she felt horrible for ignoring her fur baby. The video caption confirmed she made it up to her dog by giving her treats.
Newsweek reached out to @seveb_06 via TikTok for additional information.
TikTok users immediately flooded the comment section of the video, which amassed more than 528,200 views, with tears about how she had ignored her dog.
“Ik she was training, but she could’ve paid attention to the other dog too,” one person wrote.
Another asked: “Why are you ignoring her? This literally made me sob.”
A third demanded: “Please make a video trying all of her tricks for us so she feels special.”
The owner replied to the negative feedback: “Guys, the only reason I didn’t PAY ATTENTION in the moment was bc the golden retriever is still a puppy and needs to be trained. I’ve had my Jack Russell for years and they are both treated the same!!”
