The New York Yankees got off to a hot start to the new season by securing an opening day win over the Milwaukee Brewers. There was a bit of stress added to the back end of the game as closer Devin Williams faced some adversity closing down the game, but a win is a win.

Still, the Yankees have a hole at third base despite Oswaldo Cabrera’s solid opening day performance. Cabrera went 1-3 with a run scored and solid at-bats across the board.

But the Yankees’ ideal trade target put together an even better showing in St. Louis.

St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado has been connected to the Yankees for the entire offseason and those rumors will likely continue through the trade deadline.

To begin the season, Arenado showed the entire world that he’s still one of the best infielders in the league, even though he’s getting a bit older. Arenado singled in his second at bat of the game, but he homered to deep left field in the bottom of the eighth inning to extend the Cardinals’ lead to two runs.

The Yankees need to add a third baseman, and Arenado is still the ideal target. The issue here is his no-trade clause. If the Bronx Bombers can get off to a hot start, there’s a good chance they could make a good enough pitch to the star third baseman to convince him to waive his no-trade clause for them.
