If you don’t already associate Chipotle with tattoos, maybe you should start.

For the second year in a row, Chipotle Mexican Grill is offering a limited-time buy-one, get-one (BOGO) free meal deal for customers who show a tattoo during a one-hour in-store promotion on Friday, March 13.

The fast-casual restaurant chain said the BOGO deal will be available from 3 to 4 p.m. local time and applies only during that window. The promotion is part of Chipotle’s “Tattoo BOGO” campaign and is valid at participating restaurants in the U.S. and Canada.

With the one-hour promotion now over on the East Coast, Chipotle’s deal will only benefit customers in later U.S. time zones.

Is the Tattoo Chipotle Deal Real? What to Know

Yes. Chipotle confirmed the promotion is valid only on March 13. The deal is redeemable in-restaurant only and is not valid for catering, mobile, online or delivery orders.

Official terms and conditions state that the promotion is subject to availability, and Chipotle said it reserves the right to modify or terminate the offer at any time without notice. Additional restrictions may apply.

How to Get the Deal—Even Without a Tattoo

To receive the deal, customers must purchase one full-priced entrée and show a tattoo in person during the promotional hour.

Official conditions state that “there must be one tattoo-wearing customer for each free item.”

That’s good news for folks without tats: Per Chipotle, a “tattoo” can mean real, temporary, drawn-on, or another creative iteration invoking tattoos, as determined at the discretion of restaurant staff.

Each free entrée requires the purchase of a full-priced entrée of equal or greater value, and the promotion is limited to five free menu items per check.

According to a press release, Chipotle partnered with hip-hop star Swae Lee to create a limited-edition temporary tattoo flash sheet. The sheets were only available at the Midtown Miami restaurant on the day of the promo.

Chipotle’s BOGO promotion may not be combined with other coupons, promotions or special offers.

How Much is a Bowl or Burrito at Chipotle?

Prices for Chipotle’s bowls and burritos vary by location. The average price of a Chipotle bowl in the U.S. is between $9 to $15, depending on protein. Other variables, like adding guacamole, can raise the price, too.

What Other Food Deals Does Chipotle Offer?

Right now, folks who join Chipotle Rewards and make a minimum $5 purchase can get free guac. The chain’s rewards program also offers annual birthday rewards, exclusive offers, and special food drops.

Last month, in celebration of National Tortilla Chip Day, the chain offered a free side of chips and queso to customers.

The first-ever Chipotle tattoo BOGO promotion was in 2025. It’s unclear if the promo will be repeated in 2027.

Where Did the ‘Tatted Like a Chipotle Bag’ Phrase Come From?

The promotion is inspired by the Friday the 13th “flash tattoo” tradition, when tattoo shops drop “flash sheets” of small, pre-designed tattoos to commemorate the day.

The phrase “tatted like a Chipotle bag” gained traction in 2019, when football fans on social media began comparing a halftime performer’s tattoos to the artwork on Chipotle’s to-go bags, the company states.

According to the company’s fourth-quarter results, Chipotle opened 334 company-owned restaurants in 2025, with 257 locations including a “Chipotlane”, or drive-thru option.
