The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Bronwyn Newport opened up about husband Todd Bradley’s issues with her filming the show before their shocking split.
During an exclusive interview for Us Weekly‘s Reality Stars of the Year cover story, which took place three months before the pair’s separation made headlines, Bronwyn, 40, reflected on her lowest moment on the show.
“I really felt like I was connecting with the women in Puerto Vallarta when I was talking to them about issues that Todd and I have had in the past,” she recalled. “I don’t think they knew then — maybe some of them still don’t know. [But] me sharing something is not natural for me.”
Bronwyn continued: “I have to really trust somebody. I really [am] putting a lot of trust in them — and I wish that had gone differently.”
When asked whether Todd, 66, would prefer she didn’t film the reality show at all, Bronwyn said yes.
“I know Todd is so incredibly proud of me. He watches it and wants what’s best for me. If this is a pathway to things that are important to me, I think he loves that,” she continued. “Todd is so proud of the fact that when you watch the show and come to my Instagram, that I’ve really made my Instagram into a place where I talk about organizations and causes that I care about — and want you to see the show and then hear more from me about things off the show.”
The pair faced some growing pains after Bronwyn joined the RHOSLC cast for season 5 in 2024. Bronwyn told Us it’s “so hard for Todd to watch me argue with the women and let it go,” before echoing a sentiment from costar Mary Cosby: “Sometimes the husbands don’t rebound as quickly as we all do.”
Bronwyn went on to explain how she and Todd approached filming as she prepared for her second season on the show. (Season 6 premiered in September.)
“Todd doesn’t tell me what to say or not say. I kind of do what’s best for me and what’s honest about what’s going on in our lives,” she explained. “He definitely did decide that he was not going to film in a larger capacity with my girlfriends or with their husbands.”
She concluded: “What Todd was hoping for there was that if he wasn’t in the conversations then he would be excluded from the conversations. Spoiler alert, he is not excluded from the conversations. They just happened when he wasn’t there.”
Following some speculation about their relationship status, Bronwyn’s rep confirmed to People on Friday, December 12, that the couple separated after nine years of marriage and “thoughtful consideration.”
“This was a mutual decision made with care and respect for one another,” the rep added. “They ask for privacy during this time.”
Bronwyn has been outspoken about the ups and downs in her marriage, revealing on camera to her fellow Housewives that Todd was once unfaithful to her. She’s also been candid about the 26-year age gap between her and Todd.
“I don’t think Todd really cares what it looks like to anybody else,” she told Us in November 2024. “That’s a good reminder for me that I’m very happy with Todd and everyone else can see that or not see that, or wish they were me or not wish they were me. They should wish they were me — I’m in a great marriage, I love my relationship and I’m really happy.”
