The Indianapolis Colts made the decision at the start of the season to make Daniel Jones their starting quarterback. Of course, that meant former No. 4 overall pick Anthony Richardson would be relegated to a backup role.

Jones has taken the starting job and run with it. He has looked the part of a top-tier starter and has led the Colts to a 5-1 record through the first six weeks of the season. Richardson’s future with the team is very much in doubt.

Despite being benched in favor of Jones, Richardson has remained a good teammate. He has refrained from making negative comments and has stayed ready in case his number is called.

Eagles’ Trade Rumors Receive Major Update From NFL Insider

Unfortunately, in Week 6 before taking on the Arizona Cardinals, Richardson suffered a pre-game injury. The injury occurred while he was working with an elastic band during warmups.

Now, a new update has been shared about Richardson’s status. The update is brutal for the young quarterback.

As shared by Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, Richardson suffered a fractured orbital due to the injury. He had to be taken to the hospital.

“Colts QB Anthony Richardson suffered an orbital eye fracture during pregame warmups after an issue with an elastic band, per HC Shane Steichen,” Meirov wrote on X. “He had to be taken to the hospital.”

Richardson has played very sparingly so far this season. He has appeared in just two games, completing one of his two passes for nine yards. Unless something happens to Jones, Richardson isn’t going to see the field.

At this point in time, no timeline has been given for Richardson’s return to the field. If he is forced to miss any significant amount of time, Indianapolis will turn to rookie signal caller Riley Leonard to be their primary backup.

Raiders QB Geno Smith Receives Good News Before Facing Titans

Hopefully, he won’t be forced to miss too much time. It’s obviously a serious injury, especially frustrating due to how the injury occurred. Richardson has faced many injury setbacks in his young NFL career and will now have to overcome another.

Expect to hear more updates and news about Richardson’s status in the near future. For now, this is disappointing news in what has been a very disappointing year for him.
