A video of a Yorkshire terrier helping to remove posters on the street has gone viral on TikTok, racking up 3 million views.

The reason the dog is on removal duty is because the signs are her own “lost dog” posters as she had decided to “take a vacation for two days,” as the text overlaid on the clip reads, meaning she had gone missing.

Missing pet search engine Pet911 says that more than 1.7 million pets were reported lost across the United States in just one year. While dogs and cats make up the majority of these cases, approximately 142,000 other animals were also separated from their owners. Despite these numbers, many pets do make it back home.

In 2024, 63 percent of lost dogs were successfully reunited with their owners, compared to 52 percent of cats. The data revealed canines have an 11 percent higher chance of being found than their feline counterparts, highlighting the different challenges in locating and recovering missing pets.

The caption of the viral clip shared to @invadetbone praises the people who found the dog, saying they “took her in from getting run over, gave her a place to sleep, a full tummy, and a shower!”

The owner, who is based in Los Angeles, wrote: “I know things could have ended differently!! [I am] forever grateful to have my baby back home.”

If the terrier hadn’t been rescued and reunited with her owner, the dog could have ended up in a shelter—or worse.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) says that an estimated 2 million dogs were adopted in 2024, with many found roaming the streets—either as strays or as pets that had gone missing. In the same year, 554,000 canines were reunited with their owners, 334,000 were euthanized, and 524,000 were transferred to other organizations for continued care and adoption efforts.

So far, the post, shared on October 12, has received over 650,000 likes and numerous comments at the time of writing.

One user called it the “most acceptable punishment,” while another posted: “You know that puppy is saying, ‘You better keep those because I’m going to do it again’!!!”

Other users shared their own stories. “Mine went on a 60-hour vacation living her best life eating steak at someone else’s house while I was miserable,” one person wrote. Another commented: “Mine was missing for 12 days. I almost died and almost lost my job. I wasn’t going back to work till I found him.”

Newsweek reached out to @invadetbone for comment via TikTok. We could not verify the details of the case.
