The PGA Tour surprised many a few weeks ago when it announced the creation of a ninth signature event for next season, to be played at Trump National Doral in Miami, Florida. The event is back in the headlines this week with reports of its alleged title sponsor.

According to Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal, Cadillac will return to the PGA Tour’s roster of sponsors after a 10-year absence. This is a highly valued partner for the circuit: Net Worth Spot estimates the brand’s net worth at $10 billion, while Statista estimates its 2025 revenue at $2 billion.

The report cites five anonymous sources with direct knowledge of the matter to support this information. It also claims that the Miami event was on the sponsorship market for around $30 million per year. However, no estimate of the total amount of the agreement was included.

Signature events have so far had a purse of $20 million. According to Sports Business Journal, the PGA Tour has negotiated title sponsorships for these events at around $25 million per year, with Truist Financial Corporation reportedly paying $200 million to sponsor seven editions of the Truist Championship.

Cadillac was the title sponsor of the event, first known as the WGC-CA Championship and later as the WGC Cadillac Championship, from 2007 to 2016. All editions were played at Trump National Doral, and its champions include stars such as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Justin Rose, Dustin Johnson and Adam Scott.

The legendary car manufacturer has not limited its investments in sports to the title sponsorship of this golf tournament. It recently launched its own F1 team and provides official transportation for the Cognizant Classic, also part of the PGA Tour.
In the last two seasons, the PGA Tour has lost longstanding sponsors such as Wells Fargo, Honda, ZOZO and Fortinet.

However, the circuit has managed to recover with new agreements, attracting companies such as Procore, Baycurrent, Truist and Cognizant.
