The New York Yankees will not be going back to the World Series after being eliminated by the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League Division Series.
Aaron Judge had a great series, but it was not enough to help the Yankees advance. While Judge may have silenced some critics with his October performance, he did not have much help this postseason from Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton went just 5-for-26 with no home runs in the Yankees’ two postseason series.
Last year, Stanton practically carried the Yankees’ offense in October. Even though he struggled this time around, the result is the same: another year without a World Series. Stanton spoke on the defeat after the game.
“It’s the worst conversation to have, you do whatever possible not to be here in this moment,” Stanton said of falling short again, per a video posted by SNY on X. “Yeah, obviously, the frustration adds each year and each time we have to come up and do this.”
The Yankees saw Judge put together another MVP-caliber season. However, he got little help from his supporting cast in the playoffs. Stanton has been with the Yankees for eight seasons now. He is one of the best hitters in the game, but injuries have kept him from making any impact in the field.
Still, he has found a way to dominate as a full-time DH. He hit 24 home runs this season in just 77 games. Between him and Judge, many would expect the Yankees to have won at least one World Series. However, that is not the case. The Yankees have not won a World Series since 2009.
