On Thursday, the New York Giants picked up a 34-17 win over their division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, at MetLife Stadium, powered by a three-touchdown performance from rookie running back Cam Skattebo.
Jaxson Dart also put up a solid outing, throwing for 195 passing yards, 58 rushing yards, and two touchdowns (one rushing), proving he can be the long-term solution at quarterback. The win made Dart the youngest quarterback to defeat a defending Super Bowl champion
Getting the win was important for the team to attempt to salvage the season moving forward. They were able to avoid falling to 1-5, giving everyone confidence after bouncing back from the surprising lopsided loss to the New Orleans Saints the week prior.
However, it may have given outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux a little too much confidence, considering the two teams will face off again in two weeks in Week 8 at Lincoln Financial Field.
The young star recorded three tackles in the win and, after picking up a huge win, had some choice words about the rival on the “Speakeasy” podcast.
“(Expletive) them Eagles,” Thibodeaux declared in the player interview with Emannuel Acho and LeSean McCoy after Acho congratulated him and the team after the much-needed victory.
As seen in the full clip, Thibodeaux briefly apologized and emphasized the importance of the game, which explained the emotional remark, “Oh my bad… but nah they’re a good team we played hard and we needed that.”
More than likely, the apology was directed to Acho and McCoy for swearing live on the platform, but nonetheless, the Giants made a statement on and off the field.
Time will tell if this statement will come back to haunt Thibodeaux and the rest of the team or not on Oct. 26th, but I don’t think you have to be a genius to know the Eagles have received the message and will be looking to return the favor on their home field.
Before the Giants can even think about the rematch with Philadelphia, they will have to finish celebrating the first win and focus on the Denver Broncos next week on the road.
Thibodeaux has shown he has the potential to be one of the best pass rushers for years to come throughout his four-year career, including his breakout sophomore season, where he recorded 11.5 sacks. He hopes to have a similar season this season with a new-look squad.
