A high school textbook describing President Donald Trump as nearly as authoritarian as Adolf Hitler has sparked a heated debate on social media over the educational material available to American students.
Karol Markowicz, a columnist at the New York Post and Fox News, shared a page of the AP American Government book on social media, saying that “a teen cousin” had shown it to her. The page shows a political chart identifying several international politicians on a spectrum going from “Authoritarian” to “Libertarian” (top to bottom) and “Economic Left” and “Economic Right” (left to right).
Trump appears in the top right quadrant, to the right of Hitler and just slightly below him in terms of “Authoritarianism.” Among the politicians in the authoritarian quadrants, there are Stalin and Fidel Castro to the left, and Ted Cruz, Margaret Thatcher, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and George W. Bush to the right.
Billionaire Elon Musk commented on one of the many videos that have appeared talking about the chart, saying: “This is nuts.”
