The Merrimack Warriors (21-15-2) look to continue a magical run as they face off with the North Dakota Fighting Hawks (27-9-1), the No. 2 national seed, in a regional semifinal in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Thursday night.

Merrimack completed a run through the Hockey East tournament as the eighth seed on Saturday with a 2-1 win over No. 3 seed UConn after beating top-seeded Providence and No. 2 UMass in the previous two rounds. Caelan Fitzpatrick scored 26 seconds into the third period to give the Warriors the lead, and Max Lundgren made it stand up as he made 49 saves, including 22 in the third period. Ryan O’Connell gave Merrimack a 1-0 lead at 2:29 of the second period before the Huskies tied it at the 17:22 mark.
North Dakota last played on March 14 when it dropped a 5-1 decision to Minnesota Duluth in a National Collegiate Hockey Conference semifinal after winning the NCHC regular-season crown. The Fighting Hawks fell behind 3-0 just 1:26 into the second period, and Dylan James got their only goal at 1:59 of the third.
James leads the Fighting Hawks with 19 goals this season, with Will Zellars potting 18 and Ellis Rickwood and Cole Reschny sharing the team high of 34 points. Jan Špunar enters the tournament at 18-4-1 with four shutouts to go with a .909 save percentage and 2.06 goals against average. Justin Gill tops the Warriors with 16 goals, while Parker Lalonde, Trevor Hoskin, Fitzpatrick, and Nick Pierre each come in with 13. Lundgren has done all the goalkeeping this season, posting a shutout along with a .920 save percentage and 2.56 GAA.
The winner faces either Quinnipiac or Providence in the regional final on Saturday.
