Jason Kelce has a lot of memories from Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in London — but meeting the royal family sticks out the most.
Just in case you’re new here, Swift, 35, made a special guest appearance on Jason and Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast on Wednesday, August 13. The trio were discussing Travis’ June 2024 stage debut at Swift’s Wembley Stadium shows when the topic of Prince William came up.
“Wasn’t this the week that I got to watch Jason meet the royal family?” Swift asked. Jason was quick to confirm.
“I knew you were serious when I was like, ‘Jason, do you want to go meet [them]?’” Swift recalled. According to Travis, 35, his older brother had an incredible reaction.
“He was like, ‘What do I do with my beer?’” the Kansas City Chiefs player recalled.
“I watched him have this moment with his beer where he’s just like, ‘But I want to take it. But I know that I probably should not take it,’” Swift added. “I watched this happen and it was kind of the most amazing [thing].”
Jason admitted that this was “exactly” what was going through his mind at the time.
“If I don’t have my beer, what do I do with this hand now? Or am I just, like, being authentic by having the beer? I would normally have the beer. Wouldn’t they want me to be myself?” Swift quipped. “I’m watching you say that in your head, and it was fantastic.”
The singer added, “I’ll always remember that.”
Prince William celebrated his birthday in 2024 alongside son Prince George and daughter Princess Charlotte at Swift’s Eras Tour. (There’s even an incredible video of William singing “Shake It Off” to prove it.)
“Happy Bday M8!” Swift captioned an Instagram post at the time. “London shows are off to a splendid start.”
Days after the show, Travis detailed meeting the royals for the first time on “New Heights.”
“Dude, he was the coolest mother***er,” Travis said of William during the June 2024 episode. “He was so cool!”
He added, “I didn’t realize this because obviously we’re backstage meeting him because he was there with little George and Charlotte, and they were an absolute delight to meet.”
That being said, Travis wasn’t clear on the official protocol.
“Wasn’t sure if I was supposed to, like, bow to them, curtsy, just be an American idiot and shake their hand,” Travis recalled. Jason, meanwhile, noted that they “did get [a] warning” about greeting the royals.
“But they said that because we weren’t at, like, an official royal event, we didn’t need to bow or curtsy,” Jason explained. “If it would have been like an official meeting of royalty event, then it would have been that. But I did still address him as Your Royal Highness.”
