John Cena knows what it means to have a star-making performance at WrestleMania.
Over two decades ago, at WrestleMania 21 in Los Angeles, John Cena had the WWE put their faith in him when he won his first world championship against John Bradshaw Layfield in one of the event’s marquee matches.
That win propelled him into superstardom, and for the next 20 years, he was one of the faces of the WWE.
Those special moments when WWE can pull the trigger on a wrestler who could carry the company if they win come only once or twice every decade.
On Sunday, WWE has one of those opportunities in the opening match of the night when Brock Lesnar takes on rookie supernova Oba Femi in front of millions on ESPN.
If Femi wins, “The Ruler” might have a similar runway as Cena, the next two decades in front of him as the possible face of the country.

And heading into the Nigerian wrestler’s biggest match of his life, Cena could only praise Femi as a special talent in what could be his star-making performance.
“Oba Femi is Brock Lesnar’s even match, and I think that’s what’s exciting about that matchup,” said Cena. “Everyone goes into a match with Brock Lesnar an underdog, except Oba Femi. … Shoutout to Oba. He has the courage to stand in there.”
Sunday’s match might be the beginning for Femi, but it is the beginning of the end for Lesnar. There are rumors that the former UFC heavyweight champion is winding down his career and looking at SummerSlam later this year in his home state of Minnesota as his possible retirement match.
