The widows of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau marked one year without their husbands by spending quality time together.
Meredith Gaudreau and Madeline Gaudreau, who were married to brothers Johnny and Matthew respectively before they died in August 2024, took to Instagram on Sunday, August 31, to share photos from a shared beach trip over the weekend.
The brothers died after a car hit the pair as they rode their bikes in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, last year. The incident took place one night prior to their sister Katie Gaudreau’s scheduled wedding. (Katie, 26, exchanged vows with Devin Joyce on July 11, almost one year after the tragedy.)
Johnny was 31 years old while Matthew was 29 years old.
Madeline first shared moments from the sister-in-laws’ outing, posting a photo with her son, Tripp, 8 months, as the pair dipped their toes in the ocean. “Tripp’s 1st beach trip,” the mom, who welcomed her and Matthew’s baby just four months after Matthew died, captioned the snap.
Madeline later shared an Instagram Story of her and Meredith posing with one of Meredith’s three children, of whom she shared with Johnny. Madeline paired the photo with three love-heart emojis.
Meredith shared Madeline’s photo via her own Instagram Stories, in addition to multiple videos from the family’s day out. Meredith’s first two Instagram Story videos captured a windswept cabana on the beach as her newborn, Carter, 5 months, played with a friend.
Additional Instagram Stories from the day, shared by Meredith, showed the group lugging beach trolleys and strollers, as well as Meredith’s other son, Johnny Jr., 18 months, seated on a beach chair as he chewed on fistfuls of sand.
Meredith’s eldest child, daughter Noa, 2, was also seen enjoying quality time with the loving group.
At the beginning of August, Meredith shared an Instagram carousel of snaps that featured all three of her children beaming as they enjoyed “summer smiles” with their mom.
The happy family reflections come amid news of Johnny and Matthew’s parents, Guy and Jane, being reportedly hospitalized following their sons’ deaths, emerging.
On August 28, The Athletic published a report that detailed how the Gaudreau family reacted to Matthew and Johnny’s deaths. The outlet reported that Guy and Jane were admitted to hospital the same day their sons died.
Guy was reportedly put under observation for elevated blood pressure and heart rate while Jane’s family reportedly claimed Jane was unresponsive and entered a “catatonic-like state” after learning about her sons’ fate.
