NASCAR has announced the penalties stemming from the Xfinity and Cup Series Playoff events at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Key among these is a two-race suspension faced by crew members from the Legacy Motor Club.

During the NASCAR Cup Series event, the right-front wheel of Erik Jones’ No. 43 Toyota Camry XSE detached during the race on Lap 70 under the first caution period. This incident, occurring as Jones attempted to regain lead lap status, directly impacted his performance, cementing a 25th place finish — a result that threatens his position in the ongoing playoffs.

As a results, John Rosselli, front-tire changer, and Kellen Mills, jackman for the Legacy Motor Club team, will bear the penalty by missing the Cup Series Playoff races at Homestead-Miami Speedway and Martinsville Speedway.

According to the penalty report:

“A lost wheel violates Sections 8.8.10.4.A & C in the NASCAR Rule Book, which concerns the ‘loss or separation of an improperly installed tire(s)/wheel(s) from the vehicle.'”

In parallel, the Xfinity Series event also led to penalties, though on a different scale. Three crew chiefs faced fines of $5,000 each due to the detection of a single unsecured lug nut during post-race inspections.

Kevin Johnson of the No. 38 RSS Racing Ford Mustang, Jonathan Toney for Cole Custer’s No. 00 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford Mustang, and Shane Whitbeck for the No. 27 Jordan Anderson Racing Chevrolet Camaro are the individuals fined.

Despite the penalties, Cole Custer secured an 8th place finish, benefitting his playoff campaign.

This comes just days after Legacy Motor Club signed a huge new partnership with 3D printing company BigRep America. Speaking about the new collaboration, Steven Sander, Director of Aerodynamics Engineering at Legacy Motor Club, explained:

“In an ever-evolving performance-driven industry, our ability to effectively go from concept to reality as quickly as possible is what will set us apart from our competition.

“We are excited to partner with BigRep and leverage their technology to take our operations to the next level. Their 3D printers and wide array of material capabilities will help us meet the highest standards of part size, reliability, and performance.”

Jeff Olson, Director of Business Development for BigRep Americas, also commented:
