Shedeur Sanders finally had his pro day with Colorado being one of the last college teams to hold one. Plenty of NFL scouts came to watch, as well as anyone with some form of interest in the NFL seemingly.
That is because Sanders is one of the most polarizing prospects in this year’s draft. Everyone seems to have a different opinion of him, which isn’t helped by the fact his dad is NFL legend Deion Sanders.

Sanders had a good showing overall at the pro day, but as with his entire career, people have been nitpicking it. That includes other NFL players.
One such player is former Syracuse safety and now New York Jets safety Andre Cisco. Cisco, along with multiple other NFL draft experts, commented on social media about a potential weakness Sanders showed off while throwing passes that could come back to bite him in the NFL in the worst way.
“Boy better stop patting that ball, we breakin onnat earlyyyy,” Cisco said in a post.
When watching the video on the pro day performance, it is clear to anyone that Sanders has a habit he does before almost every throw. He pats the ball with both hands and then unleashes the ball.
While every throw looked like the throw of an NFL quarterback, patting the ball can lead to interceptions, one of the worst things a young quarterback can do when trying to make it in the NFL.
There have been plenty of others who have defended Sanders for this habit, citing many other quarterbacks, including NFL legend Tom Brady, as also having the habit.
More specifically, New York Giants receiver Darius Slayton, who could be catching passes from Sanders next season, defended him, saying on social media that more defensive backs would approach double-digit interceptions if patting the ball was actually a significant issue.
😂😂I promise he can pat the ball and be just fine if DB’s was so good at breaking on ball pats they’d all have 8+ picks a year. Same guys that fall for a 2 man dagger concept and give up the dig on 3rd&long every season all season long talkin bout a ball pat what a joke😂 https://t.co/8EmvJSPIjP

While both players aren’t the only ones with their respective opinions, both likely have agendas, in the sense that Cisco is confident and hyping up himself and other defensive backs, as they seem to typically do in the NFL.
Slayton as a wide receiver is also coming from a traditionally confident position group, and could even be teammates with Sanders next season. He wants to make a positive potential first impression so he can get more targets next season.
While it is unclear if NFL teams at the top of the draft will view this as a potential weakness that makes him not worth taking early, it is still interesting to see the varying viewpoints on the topic, even if they won’t affect anything come the NFL draft in late April.
