A rescue dog determined to return to the streets has left his new owner “questioning everything.”
Dooby is an adored pet who lives with his owner and dog siblings, Milo and Luna, after the woman rescued him from living on the street.
But, as a viral moment has now showcased, Dooby isn’t quite used to being a house pet just yet.
In a video shared to the dogs’ dedicated TikTok account, @milolunaseries on February 16, Dooby’s owner wrote: “The dog that I rescued trying to escape.”
It shows tiny white chihuahua, Dooby, in the yard of his home, where a high gate is in place. But, small as he is, Dooby is able to crawl straight underneath and between the bars, and he does so without any panic, as his owner lets out an exasperated: “You’re joking.”
He’s so relaxed, in fact, that by the time his owner gets over to the gate, he is only casually trotting away, and when she calls his name, he turns and sits on the spot.
Dooby returns when he’s told, making his way back through the bars by crawling under them, and as he looks at his owner, she writes: “Do you hate it here?”
However, she then showed another clip of Dooby taken just minutes later, this time of him and his owner cuddling together on the floor.
Dooby’s owner wrote in the caption of the video—viewed more than half a million times—that she was “questioning everything I’ve done for him,” but commenters were quick to reassure her.
“My rescue boy does the same thing. I’m not sure why he thinks he can survive on his own. he is allergic to the world and has an expensive palate,” one user wrote, and another shared: “My rescue does the same. She was found on the streets and has been with me 10 years now. But every time the front door is open she slowly walks out, knowing I can see her, and trots off.”
Others praised Dooby, one joking: “That was the most politest, calm and cute escape I have ever seen.”
And another wrote: “My dog used to do this! He stopped after I gave him more opportunities to explore and took him to the dog park!”
In updates to their dedicated TikTok account, the pups’ owner shared that, for now, they have put extra security on the gate so the tiny rescue can’t slip through the bars. Some owners choose to set up specialized outdoor dog gates to stop their pets from getting out.
But, judging from other videos of Dooby getting cuddles, going on walks, and sleeping in comfortable beds, he’s settling into life as a beloved and pampered pet.
