An Armadale man faces weapons and drug charges after a chase through Perth’s southern suburbs came to a dramatic end in a supermarket in Kardinya.

The 30-year-old was allegedly spotted driving a black Audi 8K erratically on Leach Highway in Melvill just after midday on Thursday, before driving off as police attempted to pull him over in a car park on Norma Road.

“It will be further alleged the accused drove recklessly—mounting a footpath, and driving on the wrong side of the road,” a WA Police spokeswoman said.

“The evade incident was terminated by police due to community safety concerns.”

But the Audi was soon spotted by the Police Air Wing and tracked to a shopping centre on Davy Street in Booragoon, where the man allegedly abandoned it, dropped a duffel bag in a unit complex, then fled again.

A police search of the duffel bag allegedly uncovered a sawn-off rifle and ammunition, as well as a homemade Taser, and a pocket knife.

Police caught up with the man about 4.20pm at a supermarket on South Street in Kardinya and arrested him.

He was allegedly carrying a knife and methamphetamine, and resisted the arrest, forcing officers to bring him to the ground and handcuff him in the aisles.

The man has been charged with carrying or possessing a prohibited weapon; reckless driving to escape pursuit by police; unlawfully possessing a firearm; possessing ammunition while not being authorised; methamphetamine possession; obstructing public officers; and carrying or possessing an edged weapon.

He appeared in Fremantle Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody to appear before the same court again on Friday.
