Starbucks said it will reduce its total number of coffeehouses across North America by around 1 percent during 2025.

The coffee chain will end the year with nearly 18,300 Starbucks locations in the U.S. and Canada, suggesting the net number of closures could be in excess of 180.

“Partners in coffeehouses scheduled to close will be notified this week,” said Brian Niccol, chairman and chief executive officer of Starbucks, in a statement Thursday.

“We’re working hard to offer transfers to nearby locations where possible and will move quickly to help partners understand what opportunities might be available to them. For those we can’t immediately place, we’re focused on partner care including comprehensive severance packages.”
