The New York Yankees’ season ended without a return to the World Series. The Yankees have some key players hitting free agency, including Trent Grisham.

Grisham had a career year with the Yankees. He came over to the team as part of the Juan Soto trade. While Soto ended up with the New York Mets, Grisham ended up being a huge part of the Yankees’ return to the postseason. He hit 34 home runs, collected 74 RBIs, and set a career high OPS of .811.

While his teammates may want him back, it may not be so easy. He may have plenty of interest in free agency, and the Yankees have other options. NJ.com’s Randy Miller predicted Grisham would sign with the Texas Rangers in free agency.

“The Yankees rave about his center field play, but defensive metrics are not fans,” wrote Miller. “His minus-2 rating in Baseball Savant’s Outs Above Average analytics ranked 36th among 41 qualifying center fielders. The Yankees probably will look into bringing back Grisham for a year, but Spotrac projected a four-year deal for $47.5M. The Yankees don’t want to lose Grisham, but he’s a center fielder and they think they’ll soon be set there with (Spencer) Jones.”

Jones is knocking on the door, and Jasson Domínguez may be ready to take on an even bigger role. In addition to Grisham entering free agency, Cody Bellinger could be a free agent as well. He has a $25 million player option for next year.

If Bellinger and Grisham are both free agents, the Yankees may prioritize Bellinger thanks to his track record and defensive versatility.
